For the Flow Festival, an annual event that this year brought nearly 150 bands to Helsinki music fans, 2013 marks a big milestone: its tenth edition.
What started on the alternative fringe in the early 2000s now forms a grand festival that accommodates more than 60,000 visitors. The festival takes place on a campus of tents and stages that are constructed every year in a district of the Finnish capital fittingly called Suvilahti (Summer Bay).
As Flow celebrated its first decade, big-name performers from abroad took the stage, including Alicia Keys, Nick Cave, Kendrick Lamar, Kraftwerk, My Bloody Valentine and Public Enemy. The crowds also showed up in droves to hear local talent in the form of Finnish bands such as K-X-P, Rubik, Huoratron, Black Motor & Verneri Pohjola, Husky Rescue, Timo Lassy Band, Karri Koira, Aino Venna, Pää Kii, Satellite Stories, Minä ja Ville Ahonen, Antero Lindgren, Aino Venna and Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha.
