Hopes for the future convene at MY Camp

Text and videos by Gustavo Alavedra, August 2011

The teens at MY Camp are among those who will resolve global challenges in the future (more video below).

Millennium Youth Camp (MY Camp) is a new way of offering talented young people from all over the world an overview of Finnish expertise and top-level research in science, mathematics and technology.

MY Camp brings students together for one week in summer to learn from top scientists and representatives from Finnish companies and organisations. It is run by Technology Academy Finland, which also awards the biennial Millennium Technology Prize, and by the LUMA Centre for natural sciences and mathematics, in cooperation with a host of other organisations.

Our videographer visits the campers in Nurmijärvi, 50 kilometres from Helsinki, where they are doing group project work and attending workshops centring on five different themes: climate change; renewable natural resources and energy; water; ICT and digitalisation; and applied mathematics. We also follow them through the corridors of the Aalto University School of Science and Technology, where the agenda includes testing robots.
